Confederation Cup holders CS Sfaxien will play Tunisian rivals Etoile du Sahel in this year’s final of the competition, after beating Club Africain 2-0. Sfaxien’s Abdel Karim Nafti put the defending champions ahead with a first-half free kick.Defender Karim Ben Amor scored an injury-time winner from outside the box to send Club Africain, another Tunisian sides, out. Etoile reached the final after beating Algeria’s JS Kabylie 2-0. The finalists will contest the first leg of the deciding tie on the weekend of 7-9 November, with the second leg two weeks later. Haras El Hadood of Egypt took second place in Group A behind Sfaxien, after beating Angolan side InterClube 4-1 on Sunday in Alexandria.

Cameroon: Bakassi attacked again

More trouble is brewing in Bakassi after another attack on a fishing boat of Cameroon in Jabane, in the Peninsula. It was attacked by two speed boats belonging to some pirates in the locality according to a statement from the Minister of Defence. It said the attacks took place at about 11:30 am local time.Cameroonian military forces stationed in Jabane, informed of the attacks, went on a manhunt for the assailants and succeeded to sink one of their boats, according to Remy Ze Meka, Cameroons Minister of Defence. One of the two boats is said to have escaped towards the Nigerian end of the peninsula.Ze Meka said there was no material or human casualties on the Cameroonian side. After the attack on Limbe banks on 27 September, Niger Delta activists under the name of Bakassi Freedom Fighters had denied involvement but promised not to give up the fight and to strike at their own convenience. They said they were not bandits that would be involved in bank robberies.

EU issues ultimatum to Mauritania

The European Union held talks on Monday with Mauritania’s military government formed after an August coup, and threatened to apply sanctions if it failed to move to restore constitutional rule within one month.The EU said it would provide only direct humanitarian aid to the Mauritanian population.The European Union said it would be minimising cooperation with the military-appointed administration set up after the August 6 coup that deposed President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi.In a statement issued after Monday’s talks in Paris, the EU said the new military leaders of the west Saharan Islamic state had made “fundamentally unconstitutional” proposals at Monday’s talks and told them to do better, according to the Reuters.”During the opening meeting, the European Union did not receive any satisfactory proposals from the Mauritanian side,” the 27-nation bloc said in the statement issued by France, which holds the rotating EU presidency.
