Nigerian defend World Heavy Weight title

The WBC heavy weight champion Samuel Okon Peter “The Nigerian Nightmare” will fight Vitali Klitcko this weekend. The Nigerian who is the current WBC will be fighting Klitcko in Germany for the title. Peter and Klichko have won the WBC title but Klichko have since been out of fight because of injury.Peter took the title after defeating Maskia in March this year. ‘The Nightmare of Nigeria’ expressed dissatisfaction because the fight is taking place in Germany but however his opponent Kitchko said this fight will be special and after the fight we will know who the real champion is,’’.

Author deported from Kenya over Obama

Kenyan authorities have deported Jerome Corsi, an American who tried to launch a book smearing Barack Obama. He had been planning to launch his book, “The Obama Nation Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality.” Corsi, was arrested on Tuesday. He is a leading American neo-conservative author.Dr Corsi was described as “author of a smear crusade” by local newspapers in Kenya. Immigration officials claim he had been detained because he did not have a work permit, however one of Dr Corsi’s assistants said he was “just answering some questions”.

Uganda’s Agriculture minister is dead

Uganda’s minister of state for agriculture Dr Kibirige Sebunya is dead. He died at Mulago hospital in Kampala this morning. He had been admitted at the hospital suffering from throat cancer. Sebunya had already been flown to different hospitals overseas but was brought back and admitted at Mulago.

Landslide hit Ghana, three dead

Three people are feared dead, with several submerged houses in AduKrom in Akuapim, Ghana, following a severe landslide on Monday. It was believed to have been triggered by a severe rainfall. Three communities, Kporve, Asenema and Adukrom Nyensi all in the Eastern region of Ghana were the worst hit.“In Kpebe a rock uphill fell on three houses, with the accompanying floods destroying several other houses,” myjoyonline reported. 30 houses have collapsed in Asenema, some five hundred metres away from Kporve, when flood-impregnated-rocks swept through the community.

Kenya : Rural dwellers face brunt of jiggers

Lives in most rural Kenya communities revolve around jiggers. They know little about everything else as they are busy grappling with a problem Kenyans seem to ignore. As the world come to grips with the effects of the US financial crisis, the jigger-infested victims are in a cocoon of their own.They have become so accustomed to jiggers that nothing else matters. Not that they care less about the global economic shrink or other pivotal issues; to them, the jigger problem is the most pressing. Worse still, the victims face another challenge: the stigma and discrimination associated with jiggers. In most pats of Kenya, jigger infestation is touted a curse while in other areas, people affected by jiggers are considered outcasts.In a small remote village of Kiangage, we come face to face with the jigger menace. We nearly down our tools of trade as we encounter the grim situations that surround the jigger victims. Here, children can barely walk as their feet are badly infected by jiggers.
